This is a bit of a different post for me! However, I just put this photo up on the Filofax for Philofaxy Fans group on Facebook and have received questions about my planner pages for cleaning. Rather than post photographs in comment after comment on the thread I thought it would be easier to write a blog post and link it on the thread :)
I took that picture this morning when I was cleaning the kitchen. It's part of a whole week of prompts for cleaning the house. Yes, I do this (all of it) every Monday and no, it isn't too much. If you do it all the time it just takes a couple of hours and (apart from the 'Daily Chores' that's all the time I spend on cleaning). Obviously, I still have to cook, look after 3 kids and a puppy, sort all the washing, and make sure all the other rooms are looking tidy etc but this helps me keep the house how I like it. If I am busy, doing something else on a particular day then I just do what needs to be done because this cleaning was done last week and it will be done again next week, not a problem. I don't beat myself up about it.
It is all housed in my beautiful filofax, I love this thing, it keeps me on track and just makes me happy. For those planner people who may want to know this is a patent nude, personal size Original filofax.
I am never happier that when I know I have done everything I should have done and I look relatively ok for the day. Then I can relax.
The first page of my cleaning routine is 'Daily Routine', this is what I do every day in addition to the room(s) allocated to that day.
You can probably see that the pages are printed onto plain paper from Filofax. I have just put a tab on there with C.R. (cleaning routine) so I can find it easily. There are check boxes which can be ticked with a white board marker and rubbed off for next week as I have laminated the pages :)
The next page is a weekly checklist which shows what I am doing each day and what load of washing I should be putting in the machine.
Next I have Monday's list. Monday is probably my worst day! I thoroughly clean the kitchen and utility including the oven and fridge. But.....if you do this every week it doesn't take that long. It will take a long time the first time but stick to your lists and you will be whizzing through it and feeling like a domestic goddess :D
Tuesday is the lounge, craft room and downstairs loo (which is cleaned everyday anyway).
Now my week gets a little easier. I think so anyway. Monday and Tuesday are the most labour intensive. If I am going somewhere on Monday or Tuesday I will swap days with one of the easier days so that I can fit the cleaning in!
Wednesday and Thursday I do my bedroom and en-suite which doesn't take long at all as I keep it clean as I go anyway. I also do the main bathroom which takes a little longer as it is predominantly for the kids (having said that, it gets a quick wipe everyday so they don't get welded toothpaste on the sink and other nasties elsewhere!).
Friday and Saturday are on the next two pages. On Friday I do the Hall, Stairs and Landing. Saturday is reserved for the kids bedrooms which they have to keep tidy themselves. I have three children aged 11, 12 and 7 (almost 8). I do the 7 year olds bedroom with her help whilst the older two are doing their own so I am upstairs with them. During the week (not every week) whilst I am doing my room (so Thursday) I will go in and pull out their beds and hoover the edges and clean anything they haven't got too. I will also sneak in their rooms later on Saturday if I have the chance and do anything they are not so good at such as cleaning tv's etc.
And finally, Sunday. I don't plan anything for Sunday other than doing the ironing (early to get school uniform organised and off my mind) and doing the daily chores. I have to have a day of rest sometimes!
And there you have it :) It looks like a lot but try it! Do this every week and your house will look great and it will take you less and less time to get it looking like that. It took me about 2 hours to do Mondays chores today and now I am sat doing a blog post before lunch. After lunch I am watching The Good Wife and doing some knitting :) All hell will break loose when the kids get home from school and I will be working until late so I am going to enjoy a few hours of peace and I do not feel guilty about it thanks to some organising and this little lovely :)
If you want to print my inserts out for yourself, here is the file. It is a MS Word Template document. I have found when I open it on a different computer it moves around a bit but if it does just put your curser in a blank area and press the backspace button or return / enter button on your keyboard to get the titles at the top of your page. I don't know why it is doing this but it should be fairly easy for you to sort out. The checkboxes were from one of the wingdings fonts so hopefully you have that, also the font was one on my computer that was from the old 2 Peas in a Bucket store called Pea Dalovely Damanda which I am not sure is available so I have changed it to Arial :) I have also added a PDF, but you won't be able to edit that one to suit your needs.
