Sometimes I think I may be a little nuts. I mean, who in their right mind decides that it is perfectly acceptable to knit a bolero for her daughter to wear practically the next day? Apparently I do and so does my Mum!
Mum and I popped out after picking the kids up from school on Thursday evening to get a couple of dresses for Charlotte and Amy as we were going to their cousins birthday party today (Saturday). We got some pretty little dresses for my girls (who are notoriously difficult to get into anything other than jeans and a t-shirt) but then we had a thought 'What if they get cold?', I mean this British summer is living up to all usual expectations, that being that it is absolutely peeing down almost every single day. Thats when we had the brainwave. I say 'we' but I like to blame my Mum for these things when I can and I am sure it was Mum who said 'Let's knit the bolero pattern I have for the girls, yes we can do it in about 24 hours!'.
And so, we did!
Although this pattern is fairly simple to do it takes a certain amount of commitment to knit the pieces, complete the border and sew it up in around a day, whilst also going about your normal daily chores (luckily Mark was happy with sausage and chips from the chinese takeaway for tea!).
So, following a day spent and Mum's, whose lounge resembled a knitting factory whilst we click-clacked away at our projects, and an evening picking up stitches and darning in ends at home, I managed to get Amy's white bolero pinned out to block overnight by around midnight on Friday. I went to bed praying the finished object was going to fit Amy because I didn't do a tension square and I certainly didn't have time to stop knitting to check to see if it was going to fit!
The Bolero did fit and so did the beautiful pink version that Mum made for Charlotte, we were lucky; the girls looking beautiful in them :)
Amy and Charlotte had great fun at the party and the boleros will come in handy for them with their summer clothes this year so all that panic was worth it. With this terrible weather we are having I am wondering...
...should we have added hoods?
